The color of the year 2027 isn't one color. It's a dozen, because every major paint brand names its own. This year the picks lean hard toward greens, soft blues and earthy browns, and almost none of them is gray.

The good news for your budget: you don't have to repaint a single wall to use any of them. A $5–$20 sample pot covers a thrifted side table, a set of frames or a vase. A pillow cover or throw in the right shade does the rest.

Below is every 2027 pick announced as of October 22, 2026, with its code, what the brand says it looks like, where to buy samples, and three cheap ways to use it. For the bigger money-saving plan, start with our guide to decorating on a budget.

Pantone 2027 hasn't been announced. Pantone usually reveals its pick in early December. The 2026 color, Cloud Dancer, was announced on December 4, 2025 (Dezeen). We'll cover it when it's official, not before.

The Greens

Sherwin-Williams Celery SW 6421 (also HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams)

Sherwin-Williams calls Celery "an airy, herbal green," a soft, muted shade with subtle yellow undertones (Sherwin-Williams). HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams shares the pick as HGSW6421 (Builder). Buy it at Sherwin-Williams stores, or get the HGTV Home version at Lowe's.

  • Sample-pot frames: Paint 3–5 thrifted wood frames for a gallery shelf.
  • Pillow covers: Celery-adjacent linen covers pair well with cream and oak.
  • Dresser drawer fronts: Paint only the fronts and leave the frame wood. Our no-sanding furniture painting guide walks you through it.

Behr Grounded T27-01

Behr describes Grounded as a mossy olive with earthy brown undertones. It's Behr's 10th Color of the Year (Behr). Samples and paint are at The Home Depot.

  • Thrifted lamp base: Prime glossy ceramic, then paint it with a sample pot.
  • Planter refresh: Paint terracotta pots for herbs or a pothos.
  • Throw blanket: Olive throws are easy to find at Target and HomeGoods.

Benjamin Moore Webster Green HC-130

Benjamin Moore calls Webster Green "a confident hue with undeniable personality" and a "quintessential green" that works across styles (Benjamin Moore). Coverage describes it as a deep forest green. Look for it at independent Benjamin Moore dealers, and many sell sample sizes.

  • Painted bookcase back: Paint only the back panel of a thrifted bookcase.
  • Vase grouping: Paint three mismatched thrift-store vases the same green.
  • Removable option: Paint a sheet of hardboard and lean it behind a shelf as a "fake" accent wall.

The Soft Blues

Valspar Cottage Door 8004-38E

Valspar describes Cottage Door as a "reflective mid-tone neutral blue that creates spaces that feel authentically lived-in." It pairs it with Moon Shot 8005-2B and Apricot Blush 8003-8A. Valspar is sold at Lowe's stores and Lowes.com (Valspar press release).

  • Front-door look, inside: Paint a thrifted interior door panel or folding screen.
  • Nightstand: Mid-tone blue hides scuffs better than white.
  • Bedding: Chambray and denim-blue duvet covers are the cheapest version.

Glidden Artifact PPG10-16

Glidden calls Artifact "a warm, smoky blue" with a calming energy. Glidden says it's available at The Home Depot, Walmart, independent retailers and Amazon (Glidden press release). Glidden belongs to The Pittsburgh Paints Company, the US and Canadian paint business PPG sold in 2024, which is why the code still starts with "PPG."

  • Kitchen stools: Two thrifted wood stools take about a quart.
  • Curtains: Smoky-blue curtain panels swap in without tools on your existing rod.
  • Picture mats: Paint mat boards to frame black-and-white prints.

Clark+Kensington Vantage Point 38B-4

Clark+Kensington, Ace Hardware's paint brand, calls Vantage Point a softened, warm blue made to work across rooms and styles. It's sold at participating Ace stores and through Ace's online Paint Studio (PCI Magazine).

  • Headboard panel: Paint a plywood or hardboard panel and lean it behind the bed.
  • Shelf brackets and boxes: Small storage boxes look custom in one color.
  • Lampshade: Paint a plain fabric shade with diluted paint, or buy a blue one.

The Earthy Warms

Dutch Boy Deep Rooted 311-7DB

Deep Rooted is an earthy, mid-toned terracotta. Dutch Boy has a major retail partnership with Menards, and PCI Magazine reports that Deep Rooted is sold exclusively there (Builder; PCI Magazine).

  • Terracotta vases: Paint glass jars and bottles for a matched set.
  • Tray or tabletop: A thrifted serving tray takes one sample pot.
  • Rust textiles: Rust and terracotta pillows are easy to find at Target and Walmart.

C2 Paint Pueblo C2-510

C2 describes Pueblo as a warm hue that shifts between earth, rose and brown in different light (PCI Magazine). C2 is sold through independent paint dealers, and sample cans can be ordered online.

  • Side chair: A thrifted wood chair is a good first project.
  • Bookends and objects: Paint plaster or wood objects for a shelf.
  • Pair it with cream: Pueblo next to white looks soft, not heavy.

Graham & Brown Rose Earth

Graham & Brown calls Rose Earth "a warm, earthy dusky pink with subtle brown undertones" (Graham & Brown). The brand doesn't list a color code for it, so search by name. Graham & Brown sells paint and wallpaper online.

  • Peel-and-stick: Look for dusky-pink peel-and-stick wallpaper for a closet back or shelf.
  • Bathroom towels: The cheapest swap on the list.
  • Painted vases: Rosy clay tones look good with dried grasses.

PPG Country Soil PPG15-30

PPG describes Country Soil as a saturated neutral that blends beige, taupe and gray with warm, earthy undertones (PCI Magazine).

Note: this is PPG's global pick, and PPG no longer sells house paint in US stores. PPG sold its US and Canadian architectural paint business in 2024 (PPG via Business Wire). That business, now The Pittsburgh Paints Company, sells Glidden, so the US shelf pick is Glidden Artifact, not Country Soil.

If you want Country Soil anyway, ask a US paint counter to color-match the PPG15-30 code and check a sample before you commit. Matches can drift.

  • Picture frames: A taupe frame set works with any art.
  • Throw and rug: Taupe and mushroom textiles are everywhere at Walmart and IKEA.
  • Stool or plant stand: An easy weekend project.

Dunn-Edwards French Press Coffee DEBN07

Dunn-Edwards named French Press Coffee its 2027 pick (Builder) and calls it "a rich espresso brown with smoky charcoal undertones" (Dunn-Edwards). It has a light reflectance value of 6, so it's very dark. Dunn-Edwards sells through its own stores and dealers, and you can order 8 oz samplers on its website.

  • Cabinet knobs or a small shelf: Dark brown works best in small doses.
  • Chocolate bedding: A brown duvet cover is the renter's version.
  • Thrifted frame: Frame a mirror in espresso brown.

Minwax Pickled Oak MW260

This one's a wood stain, not a paint. Minwax calls Pickled Oak "a light, soft neutral with gentle warm undertones," a subtle wash that lets wood grain show through (Minwax via PR Newswire). Minwax says it's available at retailers nationwide.

  • Unfinished wood shelf: Stain a raw pine shelf from the hardware store.
  • Wood risers: Stain plain wood display risers for a shelf or counter.
  • Picture ledge: A pale, warm wood ledge looks expensive for little money.

Common Mistakes

  • Buying a gallon before a sample. Colors look different under your bulbs. Test first.
  • Judging from a screen. Monitor colors aren't accurate. Look at a physical swatch near a window and at night.
  • Using every 2027 color at once. Pick one main color and one accent. More looks like a paint store.
  • Painting glossy pieces without prep. Scuff and prime laminate or glossy finishes, or the paint will peel.
  • Going dark in a dim room. French Press Coffee and Webster Green work best on small pieces if your room gets little light.

Frequently asked questions

What is the color of the year for 2027?

There isn't just one. Each paint brand picks its own. For 2027, Sherwin-Williams and HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams chose Celery, Behr chose Grounded, Benjamin Moore chose Webster Green, Valspar chose Cottage Door and Glidden chose Artifact. Pantone's pick had not been announced as of October 22, 2026.

What is Sherwin-Williams' color of the year for 2027?

Sherwin-Williams picked Celery SW 6421, which the brand calls an airy, herbal green with subtle yellow undertones. HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams shares the pick, sold under the code HGSW6421.

When will Pantone announce the 2027 Color of the Year?

Pantone usually announces in early December. Its 2026 pick, Cloud Dancer, came out on December 4, 2025. As of October 22, 2026, Pantone has not named a 2027 color, so treat any guess you see online as speculation until Pantone announces it.

What color is Behr Grounded?

Behr describes Grounded T27-01 as a mossy olive with earthy brown undertones. It's a mid-dark green that reads warm, not minty. It's Behr's 10th Color of the Year, and Behr paint and samples are sold at The Home Depot.

Can I use a color of the year in a rental without painting walls?

Yes. Use it on things you own: a thrifted side table, picture frames, vases, lampshades, pillow covers or a throw. A paint sample pot is often enough for small pieces, and everything leaves with you when you move. Ask your landlord in writing before painting any wall.

Are the 2027 colors of the year mostly green?

Greens lead the pack, with Celery, Grounded and Webster Green. Valspar, Glidden and Clark+Kensington picked soft blues, and the rest lean earthy: terracotta, rosy brown, taupe and coffee brown. Gray is mostly gone from the list.
